Le Barroux

A hillside village in the shadow of its castle, which springs from the rocks and was a military stronghold in the 12th century and then a magnificent stately home from the Renaissance to the 16th century. There is a stunning view over the Comtat plain, the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Mont Ventoux and the Monts du Vaucluse. To see and visit: the 16th century castle and its listed gardens, the Ste Madeleine monastery, the church of St Jean Baptiste. Suggested Activity: hill walking.
